Rev. Carol Ann McGibbon

Following a distinguished 32 year career at SCUPE, Rev. Carol Ann McGibbon, Executive Vice President, Academic Dean and the director of the GTUS program, ends her employment at SCUPE at the end of August 2013. As the spouse of SCUPE’s founding president, Dr. David Frenchak, she was part of a dynamic executive team that brought SCUPE to its current strength. This move completes the two year-long leadership transition occasioned by the retirement of Dr. Frenchak in June 2010 and the beginning of Dr. Shanta Premawardhana’s tenure as President of SCUPE in November, 2010.

Carol Ann held many leadership positions at SCUPE.  For many years she served as the Academic Dean and Executive Vice President, and directed the biennial Congress of Urban Ministry and the Graduate Theological Urban Ministry program. Among her signature achievements is the development of the graduate degree program Master of Arts in Community Development, overseeing its successful academic accreditation and establishment as a degree program first at North Park University and second at Loyola University Chicago. Currently it is jointly administered by the Institute for Pastoral Studies at Loyola University and SCUPE as the Master of Arts in Social Justice and Community Development program. Rev. McGibbon was for many years, SCUPE’s primary liaison to its member seminaries, coordinating the semi-annual meetings of the deans, strategizing and negotiating for greater collaboration on new program initiatives.

“We are very grateful to Carol Ann for her many years of service to SCUPE. During her tenure, she helped initiate many programs, built institutional relationships and worked to expand SCUPE’s reach,” said Dr. Shanta Premawardhana, president of SCUPE. “Her service to SCUPE has been extraordinary, and is not easily replicable. We wish her well in her future endeavors.”

Ms. Toylee Green-Harris

Affectionately known as Toy, this recruiter extraordinaire of the Center for African American Theological Studies (CAATS) leaves SCUPE after four years of service, to undertake a more challenging venture at the Chicago Public Schools. Together with Rev. Zach Mills, the director of CAATS, Toy helped re-build the program likening the task to building an airplane when it’s already in the air! Her efforts at “creating the buzz” about CAATS among African American churches has led to an approximate doubling of the student population in CAATS. Prior to her time at CAATS Toy served as the recruiter for SCUPE’s Master of Arts in Social Justice and Community Development program at Loyola University of Chicago.

“Toy will be greatly missed by so many, and especially by me,” said Rev. Zach Mills. “Because of her recruiting genius CAATS welcomed more students in the last 12 months than any single year in our 9-year history. Our students love her.  Our faculty members adore her. Toy’s legacy is the kind of legacy SCUPE has always aspired to achieve —bold, unapologetic transformation!”

Dr. Clinton Stockwell

Dr. Clinton Stockwell, who currently serves on the GTUS faculty, and is the Executive Director of Chicago Semester will become SCUPE’s new half-time GTUS director. Dr. Stockwell has two Ph.D.s (University of Illinois at Chicago, and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary) and a D.Min. (Chicago Theological Seminary) in addition to several other graduate degrees.

“Clinton is an expert in urban theology, history and public policy,” said Dr. Shanta Premawardhana, “having administered an academic program (Chicago Semester) for 15 years, he brings not only a passion and commitment but also administrative expertise to this position. We are very fortunate to have him join us.” Dr. Stockwell will begin his work as the half-time director of GTUS in September.

SCUPE also looks forward to welcoming a new full-time Academic Dean in January 2014.
